Thoughts turn to Wimbledon

altHi Everyone!

As I write this pre-Wimbledon and post-French Open assessment, I’m pleased that Tim Henman has begun his grass-court season looking as sharp and relaxed as I’ve ever seen him. This is the attitude that could deliver a golden summer for him.

Wimbledon

I think that Nadal will be surprisingly competitive on the grass. His confidence and ability to find ways of putting the ball in the court, coupled with the fear factor he brings if he wins a few matches, will make opponents jittery. It is not impossible for a Federer v Nadal Wimbledon final. Remember, Jim Courier made final.

Henman will be a contender but Andy Murray will struggle. Andy seems to have little game plan at the moment and the serve is poor for grass. He is so gifted but tennis is about clarity of purpose and is very physical. He is struggling on both counts, although his physical needs will not be solved in a short time.

Federer’s confidence has been hurt by the French loss. He can beat most players from the back, attacking and any way in which he chooses but Nadal is different. He needs to make a plan and stick to it, no matter what, and in my opinion that means coming forward more and certainly serving and volleying more on some key points. However, like Sampras, the grass will cure his hangover and he will probably equal Sampras’s four titles in a row.

Wimbledon is the only Slam that Hingis can possibly win as the court helps her lack of pace. I do not think she will win it but could feature in a semi-final.

Henin and Venus Williams are my two hot favourites with Sharapova a close second. I think Clijsters could go early and a surprise contender to emerge from Zvonareva, Petrova, or Vaidisova.

Academy

The Academy year is winding down in Leeds ready for a launch into the summer tournaments. We hope to feature strongly over the summer starting with Roehampton and Junior Wimbledon. There has been very little tournament play given the GCSE exam season.

All the best,

David

The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
