Wimbledon 2010

Is this a Murray Wimbledon? Is this a Nadal deja vu and a chance to defend his 2008 title and draw further comparisons with Borg's legend of winning back to back French and Wimbledon titles more than once, or is it just Fedex again with "business as usual"?

Murray has to step up if he is to challenge this year. The signs are better but I think it is tough to turn around his form this quickly and as I have said before....Slam winners take calculated risks to win, find another gear of pace and bravery which Andy has yet to find as consistently as Roger or Rafa who are joined by the maturing Soderling, Berdych, Querrey, Gulbis and Isner as big hitters under pressure. I would love to see Andy take on 2nd serves more and also go for broke a bit more in crisis. The margins are small so it is a fine line to tread between sensible percentage tennis and risk, but that's the balance slam winners find.

Not many players will relish seeing their names next to the resurgent Hewitt, my pick for a good run, although I don't see him beating Roger or Rafa over 5 sets.

All in all common sense says Roger is the one but there are more banana skins than previously and Rafa is mentally difficult for him. I'm certain we will have a surprise semi-finalist in 2010 and if so Djokovic and Murray seem the likely upset victims of the top four.

The women's is a Williams show with a delicious dollop of Henin+Clijsters cream with a Stosur cherry on top! I can't see past these girls for a winner and I think there is an early upset in the making with Shiavone still celebrating her fantastic Paris triumph and unable to refocus properly for Wimbledon and who can blame her. Her victory pleased many a tennis heart and it is a triumph for perseverance.

The MCTA/TeamBath players are all progressing well and we look forward to some surprises over the grass.

Enjoy a fantastic Wimbledon which is a feast of intrigue and sits beautifully alongside the football. What a summer it will be!
